Dervos people are entitled to take a 7-day off at the end of each year by travelling together to some beautiful places we haven’t been. Definitely this is a great chance for us to unwind from everyday stress and relax our mind and body. Our destination this time is Old Town of Lijiang, a UNESCO Heritage Site, located in Lijiang City, Kunming, Yunnan province. Along the ancient tea route, Lijiang was the center of all kinds of trading business in the ancient time. Nowadays, it remains prosperous, attracting numerous tourists at home and abroad, including   artists, students and adventurers. The town has a maze of winding cobblestone streets, which make you easy to get lost for the first visit. It is well known by its “Bar Street”. The whole street is lined with bars and clubs, with music, drink, and dance everywhere. There are many tourist-oriented shops showcasing artifacts, embroidered items, silver articles and local specialties. We stay in a hotel, whose owner has converted the old traditional houses to boutique rooms. We had great fun in Lijiang: the rosy sunset, trickling streams, crystal clear water, rosy sunset, quiet yet sinuous mountain paths, vast expanse of dry meadow, distinctive local customs, horse riding, boating and ascending to the snow-covered mountain summit at 4,680 m by cable car. We brought this unforgettable and beautiful memory back to Xiamen, and return to work healthier, happier and therefore likely to be more productive.

As a leading valve supplier in China, Dervos is a participant in the Valve World Asia Conference and Exhibition in Suzhou, China at the 2013 Suzhou International Expo Center. This is a major technical event for the valve and actuator industry, which will take place from September 11th to 12th. The event attracted more than 7,000 professional visitors, providing Dervos with a unique international platform for face-to-face communication with our buyers, familiarizing us with more plumbing and valve professionals and various industries, with a clear focus on chemistry Products, petrochemicals, power generation, oil and gas and processing industries.

It has been an established practice to do monthly company-wide business review since Dervos foundation in 2008, which proves productive to identify existing or potential problems and figure out solutions before they deteriorate. In addition, lots of creative ideas are presented at the meeting as useful tips or precautions for future work. The business performance of July is reviewed and summarized at the meeting. Rewards go to those who have done a good job in the past one month. At the same time, we hold a positive vision of the performance in August. In order to keep up with upcoming busy seasons in the second half of 2013 and accelerate the response to plenty of inquiries and offers from customers, it is necessary to build a streamlined and standardized working process therefore confusion will be prevented with improved productivity and customer satisfaction.

In order to break the monotony of work and strike a balance between sedentary lifestyle and physical health, monthly activities are organized on the first Friday of each month. When the first Friday of August expires, it is the date of outdoor activities. This time we decided to walk 10 kilometers. Hiking will begin at 4 pm and lasts approximately 4 hours. Our 8 hikers orbit around the suburbs of Xiamen, walking on slippery country roads without sidewalks, through a wetland park with a maze of wooden bridges, a quiet yacht club, crowded beaches, Magnificent bridges and shady tree-lined sidewalks. At the end of the day, we will enjoy a sumptuous seafood dinner. How wonderful! After getting rid of fatigue, we are convinced that this organized exercise can help fight sitting sickness or inactivity, stay healthy and increase the relationship between colleagues. We all like it.

On Friday morning, our experienced quality controller Mr. Liu conducted valve-centered training to expand our understanding of various valves and improve our ability to solve problems. Although Mr. Liu is very young, he has performed well in quality assurance and always tries his best to ensure that he meets customer requirements and zero product defects. All colleagues, including the general manager, participated in the training, which detailed the on-site inspection and some constructive suggestions. At the same time, several technical problems such as the composition and operation mechanism of butterfly valve, check valve, globe valve and gate valve are discussed. The next training will be held in August.
