Installation and Operation of Valves

After selecting a suitable valve, it is necessary to install, maintain and operate it correctly, so as to give full play to its efficiency. The quality of valve installation directly affects its use, so it must be paid attention to carefully.

1. Direction

Many valves have directionality, such as globe valve, throttle valve, pressure relief valve, check valve, etc. If installed reversely, it will affect the service effect and service life (such as throttle valve), or it will not work at all (such as pressure relief valve), or even cause danger (such as check valve). Generally speaking, the valve has direction marks on the valve body; If not, it should be correctly identified according to the working principle of the valve.

For example: the valve chamber of the globe valve is asymmetric from left to right, and the fluid should pass through the valve port from bottom to top, so that the fluid resistance is small, the opening and closing is labor-saving. The medium does not press the packing after closing, which is convenient for maintenance. Other valves also have their own characteristics.

2. Position

The installation position of the valve must be convenient for the staff to operate. It is best to align the valve handwheel with the chest (generally 1.2 meters away from the operating ground), it is labor-saving to open and close. In order to avoid awkward operation, the handwheel of the valve on the ground should be upward and not inclined. For valves close to walls and equipment, there should be room for operators to stand, so as to avoid upward operation of operators (Especially when the medium is toxic, it is very unsafe).

Gate Valve: Do not install upside down (i.e. the handwheel is downward), otherwise the medium will remain in the bonnet for a long time, which is easy to corrode the valve stem. It is not only extremely inconvenient to replace the packing, but also prohibited by some process requirements.

Rising Stem Gate Valve: Do not install it underground, otherwise the exposed valve rod will be corroded due to humidity.

Lift Check Valve: During installation, the valve disc should be vertical to facilitate flexible lifting.

Swing Check Valve: During installation, the pin shaft should be horizontal to facilitate flexible swing.

Pressure Relief Valve: It should be installed vertically on the horizontal pipe without inclination in all directions.

3. Construction Operation

Never hit the valve made of brittle materials during construction. Before installation, the staff should check the valves one by one, check the specifications and models, identify whether there is damage, rotate the valve rod and judge whether it is skewed (the valve rod is most likely to be bumped during transportation), and remove the sundries in the valve. In order to avoid damaging the components, when lifting the valve, the staff should not tie the rope to the handwheel or valve stem, they should tie it to the flange.

For the Pipeline Connecting Valves: It needs to be cleaned. Compressed air can be used to blow away iron oxide chips, mud and sand, welding slag, etc. These sundries are not only easy to scratch the sealing surface of the valve, but also block the small valve and make it invalid.

For Screwed Valves: In order to prevent the accumulation in the valve and affect the medium flow, the sealing packing should be wrapped on the pipe thread and should not be put into the valve.

For Flanged Valves: In order to prevent the valve from generating excessive pressure and causing cracking, the flange of the valve and the flange of the pipe must be parallel with reasonable clearance.

For Valves Welded to Pipes: First, the staff should spot weld, then fully open the closing parts, and finally weld them.
