1. If a water hammer occurs in the steam main pipe, it is necessary to immediately and slowly close the valve, cut off steam flow, and the water hammer may stop. Wait for the water hammer to stop, then slowly open the valve. If the valve is closed and the water hammer still does not stop, it indicates that the wave shaped water hammer is formed due to sudden condensation of steam. When the condensate water level in the pipeline approaches 80% of the pipeline, a water hammer will form. In this situation, a suitable drain valve should be selected to timely discharge the water, or the pipeline installation should be checked for correctness, or the drainage pipeline should be expanded. Before delivering steam to the steam pipeline, the pipe should be thoroughly warmed up and drained, and then the valve should be slowly opened for steam delivery.

2. The water hammer at the end of the steam pipeline can be solved by installing a trap valve at the end for drainage.

3. If the water hammer is caused by the backflow of condensate, the installation of a check valve can solve it, but the check valve should be flexible and not open or close suddenly.

4. If the water hammer is generated inside the heat exchange equipment, the pneumatic switch valve of the equipment's steam inlet pipeline can be replaced with a pneumatic proportional control valve.

5. Try to shorten the length of the pipeline between the valve and the container as much as possible.

6. Install safety valves, vent valves, or accumulators on the pipeline.

In summary, selecting the correct type and model of drain valve, and the correct layout of the pipeline system can solve most water hammer problems. If a certain drain valve is frequently damaged due to long-term water hammer impact, it is definitely an unreasonable system layout and must be resolved as soon as possible.
