What is a Threaded Bonnet Gate Valve?
2024-05-31

A threaded bonnet gate valve is an essential fluid control device widely used in pipeline systems. It achieves fluid on-off control through a structure where the bonnet and valve body are connected by threads.

1. Structural characteristics

(1) Threaded connection

Connection between valve cover and valve body: The valve cover of a threaded valve cover gate valve is connected to the valve body through threads. Compared to other connection methods, such as flange connection, threaded connection has the characteristics of compactness and simplicity.

Connection between valve stem and valve cover: The valve stem and valve cover are usually connected by threads, which simplifies the assembly and maintenance of the valve.

(2) Gate

Gate Material: Typically made from materials such as stainless steel and cast steel, providing good corrosion and wear resistance.

Gate Types: Depending on the application requirements, the gate can be designed as either a parallel gate or a wedge gate to meet different sealing needs.

(3) Sealing Structure

Soft Seal or Hard Seal: Threaded bonnet gate valves can use either a soft seal or a hard seal structure, depending on the application conditions and the characteristics of the medium. Soft seals typically use rubber or PTFE, while hard seals use metal materials.

2. Working principle

A threaded bonnet gate valve operates by rotating the handwheel, which moves the stem up and down, thereby driving the gate to rise and fall to achieve the opening and closing control of the valve. When the handwheel is rotated clockwise, the stem moves down, and the gate gradually closes; when the handwheel is rotated counterclockwise, the stem moves up, and the gate gradually opens.

Open State: When the gate is fully raised, fluid can pass through the valve body unobstructed, achieving a fully open state.

Closed State: When the gate is fully lowered, the gate tightly contacts the seat, preventing fluid from passing through, achieving a fully closed state.

3. Advantages

(1) Simple Structure: The threaded bonnet gate valve has a relatively simple structure, making it easy to manufacture and maintain, and suitable for various industrial applications.

(2) Easy Installation: The threaded connection makes the valve easy to install, especially suitable for small diameter piping systems.

(3) Reliable Sealing: The threaded bonnet gate valve employs various sealing structures, providing reliable sealing performance under different operating conditions.

(4) Lower Cost: Compared to other types of valves, the threaded bonnet gate valve has lower manufacturing and maintenance costs, offering good economic efficiency.

4. Application field

Due to its compact structure, easy installation, and reliable sealing, the threaded bonnet gate valve is widely used in the following fields:

(1) Industrial Pipeline Systems: Used to control the flow of various fluids in pipeline systems in industries such as chemical, petroleum, and natural gas.

(2) Water Treatment Systems: Used for opening, closing, and regulating water flow in systems like urban water supply and sewage treatment.

(3) HVAC Systems: Used to control the flow of cooling water and hot water, ensuring the normal operation of the system.

(4) Fire Protection Systems: Used as a critical control valve in fire protection pipelines, ensuring reliable operation in emergency situations.

5. Summary

As a type of valve with a simple structure, easy installation, and reliable sealing, the threaded bonnet gate valve is widely used in various industrial and domestic pipeline systems. Its threaded connection design makes the assembly and maintenance of the valve more convenient, making it suitable for a variety of operating conditions.
