Plug valves are commonly applied in different areas, but how to choose the right type of it?  In this article, we will introduce briefly about it.

1. Lubricated Plug Valves
This type of plug valves uses a lubricant injected under pressure between plug face and body seat, in this way, it can reduce friction and seal ports. And they perform well for the fluids including abrasive particles like dirty upstream applications, gas pipeline system with bypass valves.

2. Non-Lubricated Plug Valves

Non-lubricated plug valves are equipped by a sleeve for the seat part, which can reduce friction between the plug and body, it is more commonly used in applications that don’t need much maintenance like sulphur, hydrogen fluoride. However, it has limitations on temperature and pressure due to the non-metallic material of sleeve.

3. Eccentric Plug Valves

There is only a half plug in eccentric plug valves, when you are needing a higher seating force with minimal friction from open to close position, you could consider eccentric plug valves.
